WHAT DOES THE LAW SAY ABOUT SNACK TRAILERS?
Your trailer must be certified to European standards, otherwise it will not be authorized to be driven (no registration certificate).
There is no need to register your trailer as a VASP (Special Purpose Vehicle), and even less to have it undergo a roadworthiness test. Indeed, these regulations only apply to motorized vehicles.
A snack trailer is used for the preparation of food products and, as such, it must comply with hygiene regulations and food safety standards, just like a restaurant (Regulation 852/2004 of April 29, 2004, and the decree of December 21, 2009). The food trailer must also comply with the safety regulations applicable to establishments open to the public.

Licenses for trailers:
You must ensure you have the correct license to tow your trailer. This depends on the maximum authorized mass (MAM) of the trailer and the towing vehicle:
– A category B license is sufficient if the trailer’s MAM is less than 750 kg.
– A category B license is also sufficient as long as the combined MAM of the trailer and the towing vehicle is less than 3,500 kg, even if the trailer’s MAM is greater than 750 kg.
– A category B96 license is required if the combined MAM of the trailer and the towing vehicle is greater than 3,500 kg but less than 4,250 kg. In this case, the trailer’s MAM must not exceed 3,500 kg.
– Finally, a category BE license is required if the combined MAM of the trailer and the towing vehicle is greater than 4,250 kg. As in the previous point, however, the trailer must not have a maximum authorized mass (MAM) exceeding 3,500 kg.
